CREATIVE RESIDENCIES
Since the launch of its activities in Senegal in 2015, ElectrAfrique has set itself the fundamental objective of democratizing electronic music in the country of Teranga. To achieve this ambitious horizon, the collective relies on two guidelines: TRAINING and CREATION. The first is based on the implementation of introductory programs to computer-assisted music methods, while the second results in the development of collaborative artistic residencies.
The creative component takes shape through the establishment of artistic collaboration spaces on the model of "creative residencies" bringing together Senegalese and international artists with the aim of locally producing original and innovative electronic musical projects. Our latest artistic residency took place in the south of Senegal, within the Bedik community which warmly welcomed us and our friends from the Berlin crew RISE. The idea here was to collect samples from local musicians and singers in order to make them the melodic and rhythmic basis of pieces of electronic music.
